Two industries do not share a vocabulary. This page does.
Definitions that make the site readable across rail and space, each linking to the page where the term does real work.

NEAT / TECHNICAL ENGINEERING
SILSafety Integrity Level. SIL 4 is the highest in the CENELEC and IEC 61508 scheme.
Composite fail-safetyA safety architecture where the safety function is the joint contribution of more than one item, with fail-safe comparison between them. Commonly shorthanded as 2oo2 for the dual form.
Generic ProductA product re-usable across different independent applications. GMX-CS is one.
Generic ApplicationBuilt on a Generic Product, re-usable across a class of applications with common functions.
Specific ApplicationOne installation, with its site-specific data.
SRACSafety-Related Application Condition. A condition the platform exports and the application must discharge.
ETCSEuropean Train Control System, the signalling component of ERTMS.
RBCRadio Block Centre. The trackside subsystem responsible for safe distancing of traffic.
KMCKey Management Centre, for ETCS on-line key management, per SUBSET-137.
PVSProtocollo Vitale Standard - Vital Standard Protocol. The vital communication protocol based on SS-098 and CEI 9-206.
RaSTARail Safe Transport Application, per DIN VDE V 0831-200, used inside EULYNX.
KAVACHThe Indian train collision avoidance system, earlier known as TCAS.
EULYNXThe European initiative standardising interfaces between signalling subsystems.
railMLThe XML interchange format for railway infrastructure and operations data.
ARINC® 653The avionics standard for space and time partitioning, published by AEEC. Its APEX interface is what an application sees. The GeminiX-OS kernel API is inspired by it, not certified against it. ARINC is a trademark of its respective owner.
COTSCommercial off-the-shelf. Here, a finished computer as opposed to a licensed design.
Reference designA licensable hardware design, with its production data package, from which a customer builds their own board.
T1, T2, T3EN 50128 tool classes, by how far a tool error can reach into the safety-related system.
TID and SEETotal Ionizing Dose and Single Event Effects, the two radiation failure mechanisms a space qualification campaign addresses.
GeminiX-OS-SpaceThe space member of the GeminiX-OS family. Appears as GeminiX-OS-S in the ESA documentation and as GeminiX-S in the GMX-QUBE brochure.
